Here is a study week we have seen work for mid-to-senior candidates targeting FAANG-adjacent companies. Adjust volumes for your schedule.

  • Monday: 2 new data-structures problems, unaided first pass. After solving, paste your code into an LLM and ask "what weaknesses would a senior reviewer flag?" Do the rewrite yourself.
  • Tuesday: 1 system-design topic. Read one real engineering blog post (not an AI summary). Draft your own notes. Ask the LLM to quiz you on tradeoffs.
  • Wednesday: 1 mock interview with a human, ideally on a real platform. No AI during the mock. Debrief with the LLM afterward.

  5. Rewrite once more.

What you end up with is a compressed, human-readable summary of the pattern, which is exactly what you need to carry into an interview. Doing this for fifty problems is worth more than solving two hundred you cannot explain.

Interview-Recording Analysis: What the Feedback Is Actually Worth

Some candidates record themselves doing practice interviews and feed the transcript to an LLM for feedback. This is genuinely useful but narrow.

What transcript analysis catches well:

  • Filler words, hedging language, verbal tics
  • Whether you actually answered the question asked
  • Whether your reasoning was linear or circled back on itself
  • Time spent on each phase of the problem

What it catches poorly:

  • Whether your approach was correct
  • Whether your data structure choice was sensible
  • Whether you managed the whiteboard cleanly

Three patterns we see repeatedly.

The "just a reminder" trap. During a take-home, candidates ask AI to "remind them" of a syntax or API. That is fine. Then they ask for a "quick scaffold." Then they ask it to "tidy the logic." By the time they submit, the code is not theirs and they cannot walk through it in a follow-up. If the follow-up interview exists, you will get caught. They often do.

The "research mode" trap. During prep, candidates lean on AI for "research" to the point that they have read nothing original. They can produce fluent summaries and have no primary-source understanding. Interviewers detect this very quickly, because real engineers ask questions that do not appear in summaries.

The "co-pilot in the loop" trap. A hidden AI assistant during the interview itself, running on a second device or within the IDE. This is cheating. It is also increasingly detectable through typing-pattern analysis, response-latency analysis, and post-hire code reviews. The short-term upside is nothing compared to the offer rescission, the legal exposure, and the reputation cost. Do not do it.
